It’s been a busy few weeks for the London Rockin’ Rollers. On 9 and 10 June, we hosted our first Bootcamp and, even if we say so ourselves, it was a massive success all round.
Skaters from all over the country came down to attend, including rollergirls from Big Bucks High Rollers, Cardiff Roller Collective, Brighton Rockers, Croydon Roller Derby, Dublin Roller Girls, Sheffield Steel Roller Girls, London Roller Girls, Basingstoke Bullets, Dorset Roller Girls, Norfolk Brawds, Royal Windsor Roller Girls, Rebellion Roller Derby, Hot Wheel Roller Derby, Milton Keynes Roller Derby, Nottingham Roller Girls, Cornwall Roller Derby, Mid Wales Roller Derby, Birmingham Blitz Dames, Wiltshire Roller Derby, Manchester Roller Derby, Tyne and Fear Roller Derby, Middlesbrough Milk Rollers, Mean Valley Roller Girls, as well as our very own London Rockin’ Rollers Wreck Leaguers and skaters from as far as Belgium and Australia.
We worked them hard and made them sweat! Our amazing Betty Swollox and Robscene taught off-skates blocking that left everyone bruised but happy, Coach James and Von Bitch shared their tips for keeping a cool head as a Bench Coach, while Red N Roll and JackAttack ran scrimmaging sessions for all levels, and Luce Wheels put everyone through their paces with early morning yoga. We also had fantastic guest coaches: Adrian Wordsworth gave everyone a run for their money with his speedskating lessons, while the Mighty Mighty Bash shared her tips for being the best blocker you can be, and Chris and Ian from ResultsFast taught everyone hardcore off-skates exercises to get you fit for roller derby.
Thanks to everyone who gave their time to make this such a special event, with a special thanks to our guest coaches, and to all the skaters that came and made this a Bootcamp to remember. Hope to see you all again next time!
@CherieWoodhouse: I have roller derby withdrawal symptoms after an epic weekend at bootcamp. Thanks for your awesome teaching
